The Hanwha Eagles announced the retirement of its playing coach Jung Woo-ram on Tuesday. "We have decided to hold a retirement ceremony for Jung Woo-ram in one of the remaining home games this season," the Hanwha Eagles said.
Jung Woo-ram was nominated by the SK Wyverns (currently SSG Landers) as the 11th overall pick in the second round in 2004 and wore Hanwha Eagles uniforms as a FA ahead of the 2016 season. Jung Woo-ram played in the first division for a total of 18 seasons until last year, except for the 2013-2014 season, during his military service, and played in 1,004 games with a 3.18 ERA, 64 wins, 47 losses, and 197 saves with 145 holds.
Jung Woo-ram, who has become the epitome of consistency and integrity in the league by playing more than 50 games in 15 of the 18 seasons he played in the first team, set a new record for playing in 1,000 games for the first time as a pitcher in the league against Daejeon NC on Oct. 2 last year. He then took the mound against Lotte in Daejeon on Oct. 15, setting a new record for the most games played in Asia by a single league pitcher with a record of 1,003 games played.
Jung started this season as a playing coach who serves as both a player and a coach. Last year, Hanwha said, "Considering Jung's sincerity and steadiness, reputation within the team, and relationships with juniors, we decided to maintain his qualifications as a leader and focus on nurturing junior players."
Hanwha proposed a playing coach position so that Jung Woo-ram's self-management ability could be transmitted to pitchers in the club, and Jung Woo-ram accepted it after consideration and served as both a player and a coach. The club judged that Jung Woo-ram was the right person to communicate with the players in the remaining group and strengthen the team's mound depth, so that he would be able to join the team as a player if necessary, while first serving as a coach for the remaining pitcher part of the team next season. 메이저사이트
However, Jung Woo-ram, who is 39 years old and threw more balls than anyone else, will end his career without taking the mound in both the second and first teams. This season, he focused on coaching his juniors as a pitcher coach for the residual military without taking the mound as a player, and will take on a new challenge by deciding to retire from his career.
"I've been able to stand on the mound for a long time with the help and love of so many people, including the Hanwha Eagles team," Jung Woo-ram said. "I sincerely thank everyone who supported and helped me."
Meanwhile, information related to Jung Woo-ram's retirement ceremony will be released later on Hanwha Eagles' official SNS.
